Westside charity challenge to ‘Move More for March’

A Westside-based charity is appealing for people to take up a little bit of exercise during March – to raise funds and to boost their fitness and mental health.

Birmingham Mind, which has been supporting people with mental health issues since it was founded in 1962, is behind the ‘Move More for March’ campaign.

The charity, based in Quayside Tower on Broad Street, is urging everyone to get motivated by “shaking off the winter blues, especially with the evenings gradually starting to get lighter”.

Mind wants people of all ages to move every day throughout the whole of March for at least 30 minutes a day.

A spokesperson for the charity said they wanted people to “kick off spring” by raising money and awareness for mental health, while also improving their mental and physical well-being.

“With the warmer weather and lighter nights on the way, there is no better time to take on a new challenge.”

Participants in the ‘Move More for March’ campaign will be challenged to complete 30 minutes of activity a day for 31 days.

“The best part is, you can choose any activity you like and change it up each day! Walk, run, cycle, dance, swim, skip, stretch even clean – so long as you’re moving and having fun, it counts.

“We want everyone to feel good mentally and physically, whether that’s by doing a 30-minute walk with work colleagues or family or cycling, jogging, or taking part in a fitness class.”

Everyone signing up will receive a free activity tracker when they set up their fundraising page, and also qualify for a free t-shirt when they raise £20.
