A new business based on Westside has scooped a Start-Up of the Year trophy at a top awards ceremony in Birmingham.
Swi-tch, a specialist IT recruitment agency for the logistics and supply chain sector, was recognised by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham’s Charity’s Business Awards, held at Millennium Point last night.
The company, based at Spacemade, 10 Brindleyplace, was only founded in 2022 but is already employing 10 people and this year expects revenues to grow to more than £3 million.
Dave McCreadie, founder and managing director of Swi-tch, (pictured above), explained that the company had a global marketplace and was currently working with more than 15 leading retail and logistics brands.
He said: “Myself and the whole team here at Swi-tch are delighted to be recognised for our start-up achievement and really enjoyed the amazing awards night.
“We not only picked up our award but also were able to do some great networking with guests who were present at the prestigious Lord Mayor’s event.
“We started with just me in the business, working from my friends’ and investors’ offices. Over the past two years we have built up this specialist, niche tech logistics company right here in Birmingham, but our operations cover the UK, Europe, US and UAE.
“We plan to keep our HQ in Birmingham because we believe this city has so much to offer. Our vision is to become one of the first global recruitment business that’s born out of Birmingham and talked about amongst the other great Midland success stories such as Gymshark, Cadburys etc.
“Were on track to deliver £3.4 million turnover this year and we’re just about to seek further investment to take the business to the next level, hiring more staff and creating an entity within the Netherlands.”
Mr McCreadie said he’d like to make “a special thank you mention” to Callum Slaney, Hattie Moseley, Lauren McCreadie, Bal Claire, Tammy Hansford, Sam Alsop-Hall and Liam Molesworth, “who have all been pivotal in creating this exciting business”.
He added: “My inspiration to own a business has come from watching my mother build her own cleaning services company from scratch, called Cleveland Cleaning. From the age of five, I’ve watched her build up the family business and I’ve always wanted to do the same, albeit in a completely different world of recruitment “
Mike Olley, general manager at Westside BID, said: “Congratulations to Swi-tch on their award. It’s great to see some of the expert young firms on our patch being recognised for their contributions to the economy.”
