Smile! You’re on camera on the Black Sabbath heavy metal bench
Westside BID has installed a new camera to give visitors to Birmingham city centre the chance to have their picture taken on the famous Black Sabbath heavy metal bench.
Thanks to funding from the European Regional Development Fund, all people have to do is sit down on the bench on the canal bridge on Broad Street, look up and smile.
The BID’s camera and technical experts will do the rest via CCTV images taken from the nearby pelican crossing which will be uploaded for people to view and download at www.westsidebid.co.uk.
Mike Olley, general manager of Westside BID, said: “We are very grateful to the ERDF for funding this special project, planned in partnership with HM Government.
“It’s a perfect way of encouraging people to visit, and our Black Sabbath bench is just one of the many attractions they can enjoy across Westside.”
The Westside BID team has also been distributing posters about the project to visitors on Broad Street and has regularly taken pictures of those who enjoyed sitting on the bench.
