It might have been raining on Saturday, but that didn’t stop scores of people from watching the coronation AND keeping dry at The Exchange on Westside.
The venue on Centenary Square screened the crowning of King Charles III on two giant screens, including one with British Sign Language translations for the hard of hearing.
Visitors were able to watch the event in the Banking Hall, with plenty of seating and a café for refreshments.
Duncan Cushenan, venue services coordinator at The Exchange, said: “We showed the King’s Coronation in the Banking Hall and the café was filled with people of all ages coming to watch the historic event.
“The atmosphere was exhilarating with everyone focused on the screens. Alongside the coverage, we showed accessible coverage featuring British Sign Language, which several of the guests appreciated.”
The Exchange is in the Grade II-listed former Municipal Bank, which lies opposite the Library of Birmingham on Centenary Square.
The University of Birmingham bought the disused building in 2018 after it had been lying empty for nearly 20 years and redeveloped it as an engagement, knowledge and skills hub.
The Exchange is open from 8am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday.
