Bars and hotels across Westside were buzzing yesterday as thousands of football fans flocked in to watch England’s 6-2 World Cup victory against Iran.
We sent our videographer Danielle Robinson to capture their joy at Velvet Music Rooms on Broad Street and at Walkabout on Regency Wharf.
Mike Olley, general manager at Westside BID, said: “Monday afternoons are often the quietest time for venues on Broad Street, so the England v Iran match was a huge shot in the arm, creating a magnificent boast in trade.”

Venues across Westside will be screening every match during the World Cup with staff preparing to handle crowds from 7pm this Friday night when England play the USA.
Westside bars screening the World Cup include The Canal House, Lloyds Bar, Walkabout, Felsons, O Bar, the Brasshouse, Coyote Ugly, Figure of Eight, The Malt House, O’Neill’s, Velvet Music Rooms, Grosvenor Casino, Tap and Spile and the Prince of Wales.
Meanwhile, Westside hotels showing the match this Friday include Park Regis, Hampton by Hilton, Premier Inn Broad Street, Novotel, Jury’s Inn, the Hyatt, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza and Premier Inn Bridge Street.
