Westside BID presents The Rep theatre with its top WOWs award

Birmingham Repertory Theatre has finally collected its Wonders of Westside (WOWs) award for being the ‘Best Arts and Entertainment Venue’ in the district.

The Covid-19 pandemic meant it was delivered several months after the virtual ceremony earlier this year, but Rachael Thomas, executive director at The Rep, was still delighted with the trophy.

She said: “We are incredibly pleased to have received this award from Westside BID, recognising our achievements as a producing theatre here in the cultural heart of the city.”

Ms Thomas, who before joining The Rep was executive director at Derby Theatre, and previously managed Lincoln Castle’s £20m restoration, added: “Everyone here at The Rep is now thrilled to be back in the district putting on world-class performances for all to enjoy.”

Mike Olley, general manager at Westside BID, said: “Whilst we appreciate there was a slight delay with the award handout due to Covid, we think it’s crucial as a BID to celebrate our members and their wins.

“The Rep remained active throughout the lockdowns coordinating virtual experiences and we are pleased that they are now back to normal, with audiences physically able to enjoy all they have to offer.”

The virtual WOWs awards ceremony was held in January and was watched live on You Tube by more than 1,000 viewers. You can still view it here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=c0u7yOyqHNY&feature=youtu.be
