Homeless shaggy dog story ends well on Westside

Street wardens on Westside came to the rescue of a loveable young dog who had been tied up and apparently abandoned in a multi-storey car park.

As this video of the incident shows, the BID wardens came across the friendly, energetic dog while on patrol.

It had been tied up and left on its own for hours in what seemed to be a temporary homeless accommodation site constructed in one of Westside’s car parks. Despite being bright and friendly, the dog clearly appeared to be limping due to a bad leg.

It is believed that both the temporary accommodation and the dog was the responsibility of members of the homeless community in the area.

The speculation is that people from the homeless community had either abandoned the dog to its potential ill fate, or had disappeared for some hours for whatever reason as part of their daily routine.

The wardens fed and watered the grateful dog and called the RSPCA who turned up to collect it in order to provide the animal with the care and love it deserves.

Following the rescue, wardens subsequently spoke to members of the homeless community members about the dog.

Westside BID general manager Mike Olley said: “This is another good day for Westside wardens.

“We work constantly with the homeless community who we maintain a level of respect for, even if it was they who abandoned this gorgeous, youthful, energetic animal.

“We work with numerous partners like the police, the city council and, on this occasion, the RSPCA who we called and they responded promptly.

“We know the animal will get a full medical look over and be brought up to tip top health by the marvellous RSPCA. Equally, we hope a new owner will be found who can share in the joy and love this animal so naturally and freely gives out. A good day.”
