Half century celebrations for leading rock band Squeeze at Symphony Hall

Music legends Squeeze are planning to celebrate their momentous 50th anniversary in style with a special gig on Westside.

Squeeze, whose string of hits in the 70s and 80s included Up the Junction, Cool for Cats and Labelled with Love, will be delighting fans at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall on 5 October 2024.

Tickets for the Symphony Hall concert, and other dates on next year’s UK tour, go on sale this Friday 1 December.

The British rock band, which began life in March 1974, will be performing an impressive list of hits alongside rare gems from their extensive back catalogue. They will be joined by special guest Badly Drawn Boy.

Squeeze are regarded as one of rock’s vital institutions, with founder members Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook composing the songs that gave the band three top 10 hits in the UK.

Their success in the late 70s led many critics to label Difford and Tilbrook as the “next Lennon and McCartney” writing partnership.

After a couple of break-ups during the last five decades, Squeeze reunited in 2007 following solo careers, resulting in comeback albums including Cradle to the Grave and The Knowledge. The band has continued on the road since, culminating in next year’s 50th anniversary tour.

Difford and Tilbrook will be joined by bassist Owen Biddle, guitarist Melvin Duffy, percussionist Steve Smith, keyboardist Stephen Large and drummer Simon Hanson.

Supporting Squeeze on their 50th anniversary tour is songwriter Damon Gough aka Badly Drawn Boy, who also recently celebrated a musical milestone after 25 years of releasing music.

Squeeze have confirmed they will once again be supporting The Trussell Trust charity, which provides emergency food and support to people who cannot afford the essentials. Fans are invited to bring food donations to the shows, with collection points across the venues. There will also be collection buckets for cash donations.
