Sell-out: launch of Westside BID’s calendar exhibition at The Flapper proves popular

More than 60 guests have booked to attend the launch of an exhibition displaying the 12 winning pictures in Westside BID’s 2023 calendar competition.

The final preparation, framing and hanging of pictures is now almost complete for the event at The Flapper pub from 5pm to 7pm on Monday 7 August.

Luisa Huggins, media and communications manager at Westside BID, said: “We have been thrilled for two consecutive years now at the talent sent in by amateur snappers for our annual calendar.

“We came up with an extra prize this year of having all 12 images blown up and framed for a special exhibition at The Flapper pub in Kingston Row.

“The images will be there for all to see for several weeks, but we wanted to celebrate by having a launch event for the photographers and their guests.

“We thought that a few people would come but have been overwhelmed by the response and are now catering for 60 guests on the night.”

Westside’s colourful and attractive canalside area was heavily represented in the 2023 calendar, along with Ozzy the ‘Raging Bull’ and the ever-changing city centre landscape.

Lili Lengkana’s picture hosted June in the 2023 calendar.

Each of the photographers chosen by judges to have their work included in the calendar also received vouchers to spend on Westside.

Ms Huggins added: “This is a great way to showcase the beautiful sites located in Westside and we are really looking forward to meeting all the photographers and guests together.”

The overall winner of the 2023 calendar was retired dentist Damien Walmsley, whose striking image of a canalside reflection also represented the month of April.

The other winning photographers were: Chris Fletcher, Tony Wallbank, Sandeep Tewari (who appears twice), Peter Leadbetter, Lili Lengkana, who was last year’s overall winner, Elliott Brown, Meetu Varshney, Carl Thornley, Jack Babington, and Luke Groves.
