Velvet Music Rooms and Hampton by Hilton get ready to host Birmingham Jazz & Blues Festival

Two of Westside’s top hospitality and events venues are getting ready to become major hosts of this summer’s Birmingham Jazz & Blues Festival.

What will be the 39th festival will run from 14 to 23 July with performances across the region, including more than 60 events in the Westside district.

Velvet Music Rooms on Broad Street will become The Musicians Club and Information Centre for the festival, while the Hampton by Hilton will be The Official Festival Hotel.

The festival will feature bands from the USA, Spain and France, with others from across the Midlands and from all over the UK.

One of the top bands will be the Potato Head Jazz Band, one of Spain’s finest Dixieland jazz exports, who will also be recording a live album shortly after the festival on Tuesday 25 July at Velvet Music Rooms.

Dani Hadley, one of the co-owners at Velvet, said: “We are proud and excited to be playing a major role in this year’s Birmingham Jazz & Blues Festival.

“We have reached new height in recent months with our regular live music nights every Sunday, Tuesday and Friday, and so we are more than ready to welcome bands and singers in our role as The Musicians Club and Information Centre.

“Live music is alive and kicking on Westside, and we’re very proud that Velvet Music Rooms is leading the way!”

The Birmingham Jazz & Blues Festival is organised by the city’s renowned music impresario Jim Simpson, of Big Bear Music, which is itself based in Quayside Tower on Broad Street.

Detailed listings for the Birmingham Jazz & Blues Festival will be listed here as soon as they are available.
