Khalid Mahmood MP backs new Qatar Airways World Cup FanZone at Heidi’s Bier Bar

Birmingham MP Khalid Mahmood today threw his support behind the new Qatar Airways FanZone for England fans which has been launched at Heidi’s Bier Bar.

The Labour MP for Perry Barr, who is a huge supporter of Westside BID and the entertainment sector, urged fans to enjoy the World Cup without forgetting that there were certain equality issues that the Qatar government needs to address.

He was speaking at the official launch of the FanZone which is offering free beer for fans cheering on England in their match against the USA at 7pm today. You can watch the launch speech here:

Mr Mahmood said: “I think it’s really important that we enjoy the World Cup. England is doing a fantastic job and hopefully we’ll be in the final and hopefully we’ll bring the cup back home, as we deserve to do so.

“There have been some issues that have been off the pitch in terms of equalities. We need to address those issues and I’m sure that Qatar is looking to do that. We all of us need to be bringing everyone together on this journey to move forward.

“What we’re here to do now is to enjoy the football, enjoy the World Cup, enjoy Birmingham and certainly support the hospitality sector, which has had a huge issue due to Covid and everything else.

“I want all the people to come here, enjoy themselves, support the hospitality sector which badly needs all the support we can get. Let’s enjoy all the football and make sure that we bring the World Cup home.”

The Qatar Airways FanZone for England fans will be spread across the second and third floors of Heidi’s at 195-196 Broad Street in time for the 7pm kick-off.

Two free beers are redeemable for fans who pre-book tickets using the code FIFA22 at Heidi’s via this website: https://heidisbierbar.uk/birmingham/purchase-tickets/.
