Free meals for kids this half-term from Players Bar on Westside

A bar on Westside is handing out 1,000 packed lunches to children over this week’s half-term.

Players Bar on Broad Street has provided up to 200 meals per day from 11am to 1pm to parents who reserve them via a private Facebook message with the venue.

It comes after the Government voted down a Labour motion to extend a school meal voucher scheme, inspired by Manchester United footballer Marcus Rashford.

Jonathan Codona, the co-owner at Players Bar, said: “Times are tough for everyone at the moment. If we can lighten the load and ensure an extra 1,000 kids get a meal then it can only be a good thing.”

Players is asking parents to private message Players Bar Birmingham Facebook page with their child’s first name and the initial of surname, to identify their bag when they collect it.
