The Rep reveals line-up of shows for the rest of 2024

The Birmingham Rep has announced further shows to its programme of groundbreaking works of theatre for 2024.

The shows will join a line-up of impressive adaptations, thrilling new works, and cherished classics to captivate audiences of all ages.

Following on from the stage adaptation of the iconic Withnail and I comedy, which runs in The Rep’s main stage The House from 3 to 25 May, the extraordinary Youth Theatre and Community Festival called Love and Rebellion hits the stage from 5 to 21 July. This features more than 15 performances, including a number of new productions, showcasing the stars of tomorrow.

The House also hosts the UK premiere of Becoming Nancy from 2 October to 2 November. This feel-good musical, adapted from Terry Ronald’s bestselling novel, centres around a coming-of-age narrative backed by exhilarating new songs. One of the UK’s best musicals’ teams, George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, partner with Broadway legend Jerry Mitchell on the production.

Other highlights on the main stage include the acclaimed Glory (7 Sept), which celebrates the legacy of gospel singer Sister Rosetta Tharpe, comedian Tez Ilyas (12 Sept) and ‘the patron saint of poetry’, Roger McGough (14 Sep).

As the festive season approaches, The Rep invites audiences to experience two literary classics like never before. Mark Gatiss’ chilling adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic, A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story and The Rep’s enchanting rendition of Raymond Briggs’ The Snowman.

Complementing The House productions is a dynamic programme in The Door curated by The Rep’s Associate Director, Madeleine Kludje, offering an array of entertaining and thought-provoking work.

Tyrone Huggins will appear in To Move In Time.

Written by Tim Etchells, To Move In Time (23 to 24 May) is a dizzying monologue performed by Forced Entertainment Associate Artist Tyrone Huggins in which an unnamed protagonist speculates playfully about what he would do if he were able to travel in time.

Rep Original drama Bright Places (24 Oct to 2 Nov) is a three-woman, one-woman show about Multiple Sclerosis. With 90s pop, a costume skip and a lot of glitter, Bright Places is described as a funny and honest autobiographical story about growing up in the shadow of chronic illness.

And joining the festive season is Rep Original family show The Snowflake (5 Dec 2024 to 12 Jan 2025), co-produced by Birmingham Rep, Polka Theatre and Little Angel Theatre, which can also be seen at The Door.
