Be part of Birmingham Pride 2024 parade which starts on Westside

Westside BID is looking for business leaders and staff in the area to join its ‘walking group’ for the Birmingham Pride parade through the city next month.

Birmingham Pride is one of the largest LGBTQ+ festivals in the UK and is expected to attract tens of thousands of participlants during the weekend on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 May.

Luisa Huggins, communications manager at Westside BID, explained that the BID was one of the official partners of this year’s Birmingham Pride and was keen to play a major part in the parade.

She said: “The Birmingham Pride parade is free to all to attend and starts at Centenary Square in the heart of Westside 11am on Saturday 25 May.

“The parade starts making its way through the city from 12 noon, eventually arriving in the city’s Gay Village where the main festival activities are taking place all weekend.

“The parade is one of the most important aspects of the entire festival weekend, enjoyed by tens of thousands of participants walking, marching or travelling onboard creatively decorated floats, and viewed by more than 75,000 spectators lining the streets.

“Given our sponsorship of Pride, and the fact that the parade is starting in the heart of Westside, we’re determined to play exciting and vibrant part.

“To make this dream a reality, we need to get people from the area to sign up to form part of our walking group, which will part take in the procession.

“We are also looking for a ‘Pride 24 leader’ to help lead the walk and to help encourage people to sign up.”

The theme for this year’s Birmingham Pride festival is ‘Love has no limits’, which organisers say will “celebrate the vibrant tapestry of our diverse community”

A Birmingham Pride spokesperson said: “Love has no limits! We embrace and celebrate our unique differences, which make us stronger and united. We recognise the invaluable contributions of all of our community to encourage positive change and equality, here and across the world.”
