When the Black Sabbath Bench was reinstalled on Broad Street last week, it was greeted by a colourful rainbow.
On Good Friday afternoon, the sky above Westside turned a ‘Sabbath-black’ before a torrential downpour led to the amazing ‘spirit in the sky’ moment.
The rainbow appeared unusually low in the sky at the city end of Broad Street but in full view of the bench.
It was almost as if the late rocker Ronnie James Dio was posting a heavenly message to mark his contribution to the band’s history! (Sabbath fans will know this, but for anyone wondering what we’re on about, Ronnie replaced Ozzy Osbourne in 1979 following his own departure from the famous Rainbow band.)

We’ve also taken plenty of pictures of the new bench for fans to enjoy, including the newly etched faces of Geezer Butler (bass), Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar) and Bill Ward (drums).
The smartened up bench also has clear guidance on how visting fans can take their own selfie on the bench, using the BID’s nearby photo technology.
