The Canal House on Bridge Street, which has one of the best spots in the city, wants to add to its selection of live musicians who are paid for playing there.
The popular food and drink pub overlooks Gas Street Basin, and its colourful range of moored narrowboats collectively provide one of the city’s most definitive images.
A spokesman for the pub said: “We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional live music in our unique, immersive venue, and we’re always on the lookout for talented musicians across a wide range of genres.
“We book everyone from solo piano and guitar vocalists to duos, trios and four-piece bands for residency gigs to cover acoustic sets of rock, pop, soul and R&B. Our full PA and piano are provided ready to plug in and play!
“Our DJs play dance, disco, house, party and R&B and are usually booked for weekend sets, but for industry-leading events and Bank Holiday festivals [we are looking for] groups and bands that specialise in soul, funk, disco, indy, jazz and party as well as saxophonists, percussionists and brass bands.”
Meanwhile, another canalside pub on Westside is paying punters for good answers!
The Flapper enjoys a surprisingly tranquil, canalside location on James Brindley Walk / Cambrian Wharf canal basin.
It’s close to the Utility Arena – and just around the corner from The Prince of Wales on Cambridge Street, the Black Country Ales pub at the back of the ICC.
Thursday night is pub quiz night at The Flapper, with the general knowledge fun beginning at 8pm. Prizes include a cash jackpot for finishing first, £25 for coming second and £10 if you are third. The entrance fee is just £1 per person (teams must have two to six players each).
The Flapper is also currently offering 20 per cent off all drink and food on Wednesdays (food served from 4pm to 10pm, open til 11pm).
