Popular Westside calendar competition for amateur photographers launches for 2024

Amateur photographers have got a new chance to win cash and see their picture shine in Westside’s 2024 calendar competition.

Westside Business Improvement District (BID) is offering more than £1,000 worth of prizes to the winning entries that will each host a month on next year’s calendar.

And all winners will also see their pictures displayed and celebrated in a new exhibition at a Westside venue next summer.

The competition is now in its third consecutive year and invites anyone living, working or visiting the area to send in the very best picture they have taken in and around Birmingham’s ‘golden mile’ in the last 12 months.

All entries must arrive by Friday 10 November 2023 to be reviewed by a judging panel, with the best twelve images each hosting a month in the BID’s 2024 calendar, and the overall winning picture used as the calendar cover.

The overall winner will receive a £200 gift voucher to eat out on Westside, and the other eleven winners will each receive £100 gift vouchers.

Westside BID will also pay to print and frame all 12 pictures which will be displayed in a VIP exhibition at a venue on Broad Street.

Mike Olley, general manager at Westside BID, explained that the competition followed popular ones that ran in 2021 and 2022, resulting in the district’s 2022 and the current 2023 calendars.

Mr Olley said: “We have been thrilled by the superb quality of pictures entered into our competition in the past few years. We have really enjoyed using these in our calendars to highlight the great amateur photography that takes place on Westside.

“The current 2023 calendar also resulted in our first exhibition this summer and it was a real treat to meet, greet and celebrate with the skilled photographers behind what are mini works of art.

“We are committed to the same ‘win, win, win’ theme for our 2024 calendar competition, with successful entries receiving valuable cash vouchers, hosting a page next year’s calendar, and being in another photographic exhibition, attended by the great and good.”

How to enter:

Entries must be submitted digitally via a WeTransfer link sent to luisa.huggins@westsidebid.co.uk, with each photograph a minimum 1MB and a maximum 5MB file.

No other forms of entry will be accepted, and entries must be sent to arrive by 12 noon on Friday 10 November 2023.

To be valid, entries must state the photographer’s full name, date of birth, postal and email addresses, and phone number.

Terms and conditions:

No entrants can be professional photographers.

By entering, all entrants agree to the following statement: “This image is my original work, and I own the copyright and any other intellectual property rights.”

The competition organiser is Westside BID. The organiser’s judges will choose all winners.

Entrants grant the organiser a non-exclusive, irrevocable licence to reproduce, enlarge, publish or exhibit the images on its website, social media, printed 2024 calendar, and in an exhibition to be held in 2024.

The overall winner will receive £200. The other eleven winners will each receive £100. All winners will also receive three copies of the calendar. All winners’ names will be included on the calendar, and all winners will appear in an exhibition to be held in 2024.

Winners will be announced in December 2023. The decision of the organiser is final, and no correspondence will be entered into concerning the competition’s organisation and judging.

No BID employees, directors or anyone linked to this competition, or their families, can enter.
