Birmingham writer Brian J Rance will be taking people on a 150-mile ramble around the West Midlands conurbation during a ‘meet the author’ event on Westside.
Brian will be making a special appearance at Ikon Gallery in Oozells Square, Brindleyplace, on 1 March for a discussion and signing of his new book, A Midland Meander.
The book, published earlier this month, follows Brian as he takes a circular walk around the West Midlands.
Written in a travelogue-style, the author narrates about the landscape, history, people and places at the heart of England, sharing his experience of rambling and circumnavigating the West Midlands region.
Following on from his escapes in south east England, Brian moves closer to his Birmingham home in A Midland Meander.
Partly undertaken over two Covid-affected years, his latest walk is testament to the author’s resilience and determination to complete the project.
Brian shares his experiences of walking around the West Midlands conurbation in a clockwise direction, enhanced by various anecdotes gleaned from observations and encounters on his journey.
The book, which costs £14.95 in paperback, is essentially an examination of the geography, geology and landscape, history, people and places in the heart of England, ranging from the River Severn to the River Tame.
The March 1 event, which takes place at Ikon Gallery from 6pm to 7pm, includes a Q&A and book signing. Entry is free but booking is essential.
A Midland Meander is available to purchase in-store or online at https://shop.ikon-gallery.org/products/a-midland-meander.
- Meanwhile, Ikon, which welcomes more than 200,000 visitors a year, is looking to take on a new curator for a maternity cover.
The part-time role involves curating and organising designated exhibitions and projects in the gallery’s forthcoming 2023-24 programme.
Then curator will be responsible for the Exhibitions Department.
