The new Chinese lunar year was celebrated on Westside by lion dancers who visited venues across the district.
People living, working and visiting Westside saw the dancing tour start outside the Library of Birmingham and the Rep Theatre on Centenary Square.
The lion then visited the ICC, Craft Dining and along the canal to Brindleyplace, visiting Café Nero, the Crescent Theatre, Grosvenor Casino and ending at Park Regis hotel.
You can watch Westside World’s two-minute video of the lion dancers’ visits here:
The festivities took place from 2pm to 4pm on Thursday 26 January to bless the Year of the Rabbit, and we captured the dancers in mini-clips outside each venue and posted them across social media all afternoon.
Mike Olley, general manager of Westside BID, said: “We are always thrilled to be visited by the Chinese lion dancers who help to show what an incredibly diverse city Birmingham has become.
“The spectacle also gives us a great chance to share the celebrations with our businesses, guiding the lion dancers to various venues.”
The celebrations were organised by James Wong, chair of Birmingham’s Chinese Festival Committee and managing director of the city’s famous Chung Ying Restaurants.
Mr Wong said: “It’s great to be able to outreach to different parts of the city and we were delighted to bring our festivities to as many spectators as possible.”
