Legendary guitar player Tony Iommi drops in to see Black Sabbath bridge on Westside

Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi just couldn’t resist popping down to see the band’s ‘heavy metal’ bench on Westside yesterday afternoon.

And when the legendary guitar player bumped into passers-by admiring the bench, he was more than happy to have his picture taken with them.

Westside Business Improvement District (BID) came up with the idea for a bench honouring Black Sabbath and worked closely with the Canal & River Trust and Birmingham City Council to get it installed in 2019. The canal bridge running across Broad Street has also been named after the band.

Mike Olley, general manager of Westside BID said: “It was fantastic to see Tony at the bench again.

“He’s still pretty busy these days, but I know from talking to him that he loves the bench and quite regularly likes to see it close-up if he happens to be in and around town with a few minutes to spare.

“It was great to see him and lovely that some chance members of the public got to have their pictures taken with him.”
