New Rudy’s pizzeria creating dozens of jobs next month on former Cielo site

Dozens of full and part-time jobs are being created at a new pizzeria opening at Oozells Square on Westside next month.

Rudy’s Pizza Napoletana will be opening on Monday 6 February at 6 Oozells Street, where the famous Cielo Italian restaurant was based until it closed down last year.

Workmen were working intensively to finish off the refurbishment when Westside World passed the site this week, with the former Cielo signage still awaiting removal.

Signs currently outside the venue headed ‘JOIN THE FAMIGLIA’ are inviting applications for jobs as ‘pizzaioli’ (pizza makers), kitchen hands, managers and floor crew.

No specific employment figures for the new Rudy’s have been released by its owning company Mission Mars, but when a sister venue opened in Leeds last year it was reported to have created up to 40 new full and part-time jobs.

Mike Olley, general manager of Westside BID, said: “We’re really pleased to be welcoming Rudy’s onto Oozells Square which has become a real paradise for foodies, as it also hosts the Siamais and Piccolino restaurants, as well as York’s café at the Ikon opposite.

“We were, of course, sad that Cielo closed its doors after many years of great service for diners, but as I always say, when one business ends it always signals a new opportunity for another.

“With that in mind, it will great to see what we believe will be dozens of new full and part-time workers joining the Westside business community and we will make sure that both they and Rudy’s as a business are made to feel very welcome.”

What will soon be known as Rudy’s Brindleyplace will be the brand’s second venue in the city, the first one being on Bennetts Hill, off New Street.

Josh Cheevers, general manager of the new Rudy’s branch, said: “We look forward to opening our doors on Oozells Street from Monday 6 February. The team have loved serving our Neapolitan pizza in Birmingham and we hope this new site will be another welcoming addition for the city.”

Rudy’s has been serving pizzas since 2015 from its original Rudy’s in Ancoats, Manchester, and now has 15 branches in cities across the UK including Leeds, Liverpool, London and Sheffield.

Rudy’s Brindleyplace is set to open seven days a week, Monday to Sunday, from 12pm until 8pm.
