The Ikon Gallery’s twice-weekly ‘spotlight tours’ are regularly attracting up to 25 people a time, it has been revealed.
The 15-minute slots at 1pm every Friday and at 3pm every Sunday are hosted by information assistants working on the exhibitions, with each mini-tour focusing on one piece of work.
The spotlights are free of charge and no bookings are required, although the Ikon suggests donations of £5 from members of the public if they can afford to pay.
Rebecca Small, head of communications at the Ikon, said: “We’ve been running spotlight tours for a long time but a recent marketing push on social media is bringing in bigger numbers.
“We get anything from three or four visitors all the way up to 25, with the Friday slots particularly popular.
“The tours are each led by a member of our information assistants team who have a lot of knowledge as they are working within the gallery spaces.
“We’ve found this is a really nice way of engaging with one particular piece from the huge variety of work we exhibit in a low-key way.”
Anyone interested in joining the ‘spotlight tours’ should meet in the Ikon foyer just before 1pm on Fridays or just before 3pm on Sundays.
