Tuck into a feast of music, dance and fun at the Symphony Hall on Westside

There is no shortage of live entertainment on show at Westside over the coming weeks and months as Symphony Hall unveils its Spring 2023 season.

B:Music, the music charity responsible for the iconic Centenary Square venue, has launched a new programme of shows covering February to the end of April.

And there promises to be something for all tastes with a line-up that ranges from comedy and dance to live music of every type, including folk, jazz, pop and classical.

The new season gets underway in February with the start of a varied programme of classical music commencing with the CBSO, conducted by Kazuki Yamada, performing The Planets.

That is followed by the B:Classical season, starting with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra on 6 February, and continuing with the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, Ex Cathedra, and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.

If dance is your thing, then Birmingham Royal Ballet combine with the Royal Ballet Sinfonia to produce An Evening of Music and Dance on 11 February.

For Strictly Come Dancing fans there are three pairs of celebrated ‘Strictly’ stars bringing their shows to Symphony Hall:

  • Gorka Marquez and Karen Hauer perform Firedance on 31 March;
  • Once Upon a Time on 4 April sees Nadiya and Kai on stage together for the first time; and
  • ‘Strictly’ 2021 champion Giovanni Pernice will take audiences on a journey to his homeland with new production Made in Italy on 8 April.

Lovers of live music can also enjoy a rich variety of concerts, starting with songstress Belinda Carlisle on 3 February and continuing with BBC Jazz Award winning saxophonist Julian Siegal on 7 February.

On 9 February, the combined folk talents of Transatlantic Sessions, featuring Martha Wainwright hit the stage. Other performances include:

  • 27 February, KT Tunstall
  • 4 March, The Levellers
  • 21 March, Suede
  • 5 April, former Bros frontman Matt Goss with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra
  • 14 April, Fisherman’s Friends, and
  • 24 April, the legendary Billy Ocean.

There will also be plenty of fun along the way including 2022 Britain’s Got Talent winner Axel Blake on 22 April and Neighbours: The Celebration Tour on 16 March, featuring soap stars Alan Fletcher and Jackie Woodburne (Karl & Susan Kennedy), Stefan Dennis (Paul Robinson) and Ryan Moloney (Toadie Rebecchi).
