Art curator position up for grabs at Westside’s Ikon Gallery

Ever fancied looking after trendy artworks at one of the UK’s top galleries?

Well now you can apply for a job doing just that at the Ikon Gallery in Oozells Square, Brindleyplace.

The leading contemporary art gallery is currently looking for additional staff to help maintain its high-profile place within the art world.

The Ikon is advertising to fill two new job opportunities – one as a permanent assistant curator, and the other as an information assistant on a temporary year-long contract.

The new assistant curator, with a start date of 3 October, is expected to play a key role in the Exhibitions Department.

With a salary of £22,145, they will be supporting the existing curator and director in the research, planning and delivery of Ikon’s exhibitions programme.

The successful candidate for the role of part-time information assistant, due to start on 31 August and paying £9.79 a hour, will have an interest in contemporary visual arts.

Applicants for the job must have a “passion” for contemporary art and contribute to the “creative life” of the gallery.

Among their responsibilities are researching artists, museums and galleries, and organising travel and accommodation for visiting artists.

Ikon, which was founded in 1965, is an internationally acclaimed art gallery offering free admission to visitors.

It currently delivers up to a dozen exhibitions a year across its two floors of galleries, attracting more than 200,000 visitors a year.

From 2023, the programme will comprise three seasons of up to nine on-site exhibitions a year, including solo exhibitions by local, national and international artists, new commissions, and displays of historical art with a contemporary relevance.

More information, including how to apply for the two posts, can be found on the Ikon website: https://www.ikon-gallery.org/jobs
