Westside hosts art, drama and dance events as part of Birmingham 2022 Festival

An exciting programme of art, drama and dance events are taking place on Westside later this month as part of the Birmingham 2022 Festival.

Centenary Square will be transformed to host Wondrous Stories, a spectacular free dance event which will be the opening show of the festival.

The unticketed event takes place at 7pm on 17 March and then at 6.30pm and 8.30pm on the 18,19 and 20 March, and will feature Motionhouse’s internationally renowned and professional dance-circus company.

They will perform alongside a mass cast of hundreds from Critical Mass, Freewheelin Dance Company, Motionhouse Youth, Sampad and DanceXchange.

Mike Olley, general manager of Westside BID, said: “How wonderful that Westside is once again hosting the launch of a city-wide festival that will show off everything our great city has to offer.

“Not only can audiences enjoy some spectacular art and culture, but they can then continue to enjoy themselves at cafes, bars, restaurants and other leisure venues in and around the city’s golden mile of Broad Street.”

Allan Boyle, general manager of the NEC Group has welcomed the activities that will be taking place on the doorstep of the ICC Birmingham.

He explained that audiences can expect large-scale immersive action and plenty of thrills as stories, a giant book and characters tumble out of the night sky.

He said: “If you are planning visit the city over the course of spring and summer you will find an excited, engaged city ready to celebrate an incredible programme of cultural events.”
