Top singer Jaki Graham to perform at Westside BID’s virtual awards this Sunday

An awards ceremony that celebrates the daytime economy in the Westside BID area is to broadcast live on YouTube this Sunday 22 August.

Top singer-songwriter Jaki Graham will be the star attraction at the Westside Excellence Awards, which will highlight the success of businesses in the area.

The event will be broadcast live from 7pm, hosted by local radio presenter Natalie Graham and sports commentator Tom Marlow.

Birmingham-born singer-songwriter Jaki Graham shot to fame after her hit version of ‘Could It Be I’m Falling in Love’ with David Grant in 1985.

She scored a further five UK Top 20 hits over a two-year period, including a cover version of Chaka Khan’s hit ‘Ain’t Nobody’ in 1994 which reached number one on the US Billboard Dance Chart.

Elaine Weir, business liaison manager at Westside BID, said: “We’re thrilled to launch the Westside Excellence Awards to highlight, support and promote the daytime economy that plays such a vital part in the daily functioning of our area.

“We’ve previously held popular wards such as the Wonders of Westside, known as the WOWs, which have celebrated the night-time economy.

“More than 1,000 people tuned in for the virtual WOWs awards in January, and we received incredible feedback from members and the general public.

“We therefore now want to highlight the success of all the businesses in our daytime economy, such as teams in the corporate and professional services sector.

“We have hired top radio presenters to host the awards and the audience who tune in will also get to see a top performance by internationally renowned artist Jaki Graham.”

Ms Weir added: “We are confident that the Westside Excellence Awards will be a show not to be missed, filled with great awards and brilliant entertainment.”
