Submit snaps of your cherished pet to charity’s calendar competition

Every pet owner believed that their beloved cat, dog or rabbit is the cutest or handsomest in the world.

And now they have a chance to promote their pets’ claims by entering a photo competition to appear in next year’s Birmingham Mind calendar.

Alongside the Pet Photography competition, which can be found on Facebook and Instagram, is a serious message about the positive role that pets have on their owners.

Kerrie Henry-Edge, fundraising officer for mental health charity Birmingham Mind, based on Broad Street, said studies have shown that having pets and spending time with animals has a positive impact on mental health.

“They help to reduce loneliness and anxiety as well as boosting self-esteem and adding structure to our day.”

The launch of the pet photo competition coincided with National Pet Day 2024 on Thursday 11 April.

Birmingham Mind is looking for six pets to feature in its 2025 Pet Calendar, which will be sold to raise vital funds towards improving mental health in the city.

The charity says it wants to discover why pets mean so much to their owners, whether pigmy hedgehogs or ferrets to stick insects and ponies.

Additionally, for a £5 donation, people can choose to enter a prize draw to be in with a chance of winning a £30 voucher from pet store, Pets Villa. To enter, make the donation via PayPal using the reference PET COMP.

The competition is open to Birmingham Mind supporters, followers, staff, service users and volunteers. You can enter multiple pets, multiple times, but do not submit any pictures with people in them – only photos of pets.

To entry, email fundraising@birminghammind.org or via the charity’s Facebook page.

The competition closes at 10pm on Thursday 25 April, with the six photo winners notified by 26 July.

The winner of the £30 voucher will be notified by email by 5pm on Friday 26 April.
