Fun art project blossoming on Westside

The cherry blossoms are out in all their beautiful glory within Oozells Square in Brindleyplace.

And people of all ages are being invited to enjoy them close-up as part of a fun family art event taking place on Sunday 24 March.

The event, which is being held in conjunction with Ikon Gallery, invites all age groups to interpret the cherry blossoms through a range of printing techniques.

Celebrating its 60th year, Ikon is encouraging families to create a unique screenprint in response to the vibrant springtime display of blossom.

Taking inspiration from the Japanese tradition of blossom-viewing festivals and picnics, participants are asked to choose a design and print a mini-poster in their choice of colours, to reflect the fleeting beauty and symbolism of the Sakura season.

The event takes place between 12pm and 4pm, with the final hour being accompanied by the sounds of a concert by the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group in Oozells Square. The tranquil music will be performed by three musicians on wind instruments from 3pm to 4pm.

Brindleyplace will also continue its association with the National Trust this year by offering everyone access to its Blossom Toolkit from 21st March. The kit includes a range of fun activities from storytelling to art projects and picnic ideas. More information can be found by scanning the QR code on the boards in Oozells Square.

Throughout the cherry blossom season people are encouraged to take photos and share them using the hashtags #Brindleyblossoms and #blossomwatch and tagging Brindleyplace.

The favourite snaps will be chosen each week and displayed in a Blossom Gallery on the Brindleyplace website at: www.brindleyplace.com
