Birmingham Jazz Festival programme to be officially launched on Westside

The official programme for the Birmingham, Sandwell & Westside Jazz Festival will be launched at the Velvet Music Rooms at 7pm tomorrow (Tuesday 21 June).

As well finding out about all 190 live festival shows – 48 of which are taking place at venues on Westside – music fans are invited to stay for the regular Henry’s Blueshouse concert that follows.

This will see The Nitecrawlers play their own brand of Chicago blues, live and free, from 8pm.

The 38th Birmingham, Sandwell & Westside Jazz Festival will see 10 days of toe-tapping jazz, blues, swing and jitterbug from July 15 to 24.

Festival organiser Jim Simpson said: “Be the first to pick up your free copy of the essential guide to the most entertaining festival in Birmingham this summer.”

The free festival programme includes a chronological list of every single performance taking place over the 10 days, including music workshops, dance classes and a Meet the Author session.

It also features details of the various venues, and bands and musicians taking part, plus loads of photos of some of the main attractions.

In his foreword to the official guide, Gerald Manton, chair of Westside BID, said: “We are looking forward to a fabulous event this year unencumbered by the restrictions of the pandemic and the welcome re-emergence of the night-time economy.

“The Jazz Festival is renowned for its musical excellence and the cultural capital that it brings. It is an integral and much awaited part of our calendar, and we are proud to continue to support it.”

The Velvet Music Rooms, which is the new home of Henry’s Blueshouse, will also host the Festival Information Centre from 8 July.
