Visionary ideas for Westside ranging from night markets to Europe’s biggest real ale festival and huge New Year’s Eve celebrations have been discussed with Birmingham’s leading politicians.
Gerald Manton, the new chair of Westside BID, explained his plans with city leader Cllr Ian Ward and Waseem Zaffar, the cabinet member for transport and the environment.
Both councillors toured the streets in and around Birmingham’s ‘golden mile’ with Mr Manton and asked him about how and when the projects could be launched.
Cllr Ward said: “Your idea of more events is a great suggestion for the future of Westside, and the beer festival idea is superb.”
And Cllr Zaffar said: “The place looks brilliant with all the improvements going in leading up to the Commonwealth Games, and it’s an exciting time for the district.”
Mr Manton added: “Having the street closed off for such a long time and now having the Clean Air Zone where the vehicles haven’t been coming to the area has really made us all sit back and revaluate how we use these spaces.”
