Drink spiking: Westside BID tells BBC more police needed to enforce law

Politicians worried about the ‘drink spiking’ should be campaigning for more police to enforce the law, according to comments made on BBC TV by Westside BID.

Mike Olley, the general manager of the BID, was interviewed on Politics Midlands yesterday (Sunday) during a news story looking into 387 reports of drink spiking across the West Midlands in the last year.

Mr Olley said: “The law we have is perfectly good. There are no loopholes in the law as I understand it, and no lack of law.

“What there is is a shortage of police to enforce the law. I’d like to say to these MPs, if you really want to do something practical to prevent spiking to stop this vile crime against women, campaign vigorously for more police.”
