Westside BID tells BBC radio about how it protects women on ‘golden mile’

Top BBC radio presenter Caroline Martin invited Westside BID onto her radio show today (Thursday) to discuss national reports of women being injected by attackers in nightclubs.

Mike Olley, general manager of Westside BID, explained how he was aware of no such cases in and around Broad Streets nightlife venues.

But he also explained the various measures the BID and its partners had in place to protect women.

Listen to the full interview here:

Mr Olley said: “I reel in horror at the thought of such crimes, but it’s not something that we have had reports of on Broad Street.

“If it is going on, then the home secretary is right to find out what the extent of this is as a crime against women because we will not tolerate this.

“Meanwhile, we have welfare people in our venues, door staff at all entrances, and general managers in each venue who are aware of the need to watch out for anything – and that’s just inside premises.

“Outside, we have teams of wardens, our very efficient West Midlands Police officers present on busy nights, a radio link keeping everyone in touch, social media alerting anyone to problems and paramedics ready to help.

“All this is ready on any night to help protect people against any crime and disorder.” The full interview is at Mike Olley on BBCWM radio.
