Westside wardens are ‘guardian angels’ for Broad Street revellers, says Birmingham Live reporter

Birmingham Live reporter Harry Leach has highlighted the crucial and brave work of our Westside wardens after joining them for an eventful Saturday night shift on the Golden Mile.

Harry shared his experiences with readers after joining senior warden Pete Willis and warden Nicola Hebberts as they patrolled Broad Street between 8pm-3am.

He witnessed the alcohol-fuelled disturbances which afflict every city centre late at night, but was struck by the calm patience, dedication and professionalism of Westside’s wardens and praised the vital role they play in protecting clubbers.

Westside BID general manager Mike Olley said: “Like most people, Harry has enjoyed many a night out along Broad Street and perhaps not noticed the tireless work carried out by our wardens behind the scenes.

“Our Westside wardens work so hard to keep the peace and make sure revellers stay safe, and Harry rightfully described them in his story as ‘guardian angels’.

“This was a thoughtful piece and we hope it will encourage readers to drink responsibly and have an even better time next time they come to enjoy a night out along Westside.”
