Enjoy spoonfuls of historic culture with the Roundhouse during Birmingham Heritage Week

The Roundhouse charity on Westside is playing a central role in Birmingham Heritage Week next month, starting with an outdoor screening of Mary Poppins Returns.

The pop-up, silent disco-style event will take place in the Roundhouse’s sloping cobbled courtyard on Thursday 9 September.

Birmingham Heritage Week is a 11-day city-wide festival that celebrates the city’s history, enabling the public to visit exhibitions, take part in walks and workshops, listen to talks or visit buildings that are not normally open to the public.

Special events organised by the Roundhouse as its contribution to the heritage programme include:

  • 9 September: Mary Poppins Returns – outdoor film screening.
  • 13 and 16 September: Bustling Birmingham by Night kayak tours.
  • 16 September: Women Between the Lines, a guided walking tour and poetry event celebrating the untold stories of women in Birmingham.
  • 17 September: a tour along the Harborne Walkway
  • 18 September: a Hidden Creatures creative walkshop

The Roundhouse will also be running its regular programme of walks, paddles, tours and our pay-as-you-feel self-guided trails during the heritage week.

Chris Maher, creative producer at the Roundhouse, said: “We’re thrilled join organisations from all over the city in celebrating Birmingham’s brilliant heritage.”

Mike Olley, general manager of Westside BID, said: “There’s so much history on Westside and we’re delighted that the Roundhouse is taking part in the heritage week to help more visitors learn all about it and enjoy their city.”
