Woman accused of racially abusing pub doorman remains on bail

Police said today that they are still gathering evidence in an alleged case of racial abuse against a doorman outside a pub on Broad Street.

The incident, which happened outside the Figure of Eight on the night of Saturday 22 May, was caught on video, attracting millions of views.

The story was first reported here: https://westsidebid.co.uk/2021/05/24/woman-faces-lifetime-ban-from-birmingham-pubs-after-racially-abusing-and-spitting-at-doorman/

A later story revealed that West Midlands Police had arrested a 24-year-old woman from Worcester on suspicion of racially abusing doorman Tristan Price.

The woman, who was detained after attending a police station at the police force’s request, is also accused of racially abusing another man standing near the pub entrance and earlier damaging furniture inside the pub premises.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said today that the suspect had not yet been charged.

However, they added: “She has been bailed with conditions, including not to enter Birmingham, while we continue to gather witness evidence before we present a file to the CPS (Crown Prosecution Service).”

Chief Inspector James Spencer of West Midlands Police had previously described the incident as “awful” and said people were “understandably disgusted”.

He went on to say that racist behaviour was “completely unacceptable.

J D Wetherspoon, which runs the pub, has previously said the woman would be banned from its city centre premises.

They said they had a “zero tolerance policy” when it comes to racist abuse against any of its staff.
