Ikon Gallery urges people to shop independent for this Christmas

A popular Westside art gallery currently closed in the new lockdown is staying open for business via its online store in the run-up to Christmas.

The Ikon gallery in Brindleyplace and its gift shop have had to close due to the England-wide lockdown which allows only essential stores to remain open.

But the gallery, situated at 1 Oozells Square, is still allowing shoppers to grab their Christmas goodies via its online shop, which stocks a range of novelty gifts supplied by independent suppliers and local businesses.

They include T-shirts, tote bags, homeware, stationery, jewellery and a wide range of items celebrating Birmingham including local history books, maps, prints and posters.

The gallery is best known to visitors locally and nationally for its creative, abstract art exhibitions, but Westside BID bosses are also highlighting the online store as a great place to find stocking fillers.

Rebecca Small from the Ikon gallery said: “It’s been a challenging time for many arts organisations in the city, including Ikon, but we’ve really felt the support from our visitors and partners.

“One of the ways people can continue to help is through the Ikon Shop – we stock a range of gifts suitable for all ages and many are from independent makers and businesses.

“As a charity, every penny helps so I encourage you to have a browse online and shop local this Christmas.”

Luisa Huggins, media manager of Westside BID, added: “The Ikon gallery is a great place for an afternoon out with family and friends, however, they also have a range of brilliant gifts, which makes ideal stocking fillers this Christmas.

“I encourage people to shop independently this Christmas and spread a little festive cheer”.
