“Incredible measures” to reassure hotel customers praised by West Midlands Mayor Andy Street

West Midlands Mayor Andy Street has praised hospitality staff in Birmingham after a visit to Westside to inspect COVID secure measures.

As hotels and bars re-opened their doors to guests, Mr Street was invited to see at first hand some of the safety measures implemented at the Park Regis Hotel in Fiveways.

“I’ve been looking around at some of the measures to give customers confidence to come and make a booking,” said Mr Street. “Park Regis is a real example setter for what’s been going on across the sector.

“We’ve seen some incredible measures and I loved the seal on the hotel bedroom doors, just to make you absolutely certain that you’re going into a room that no one has been in after the very thorough cleaning.

“It’s great to see how the region has adapted in the wake of coronavirus and continues to move forward. Being able to safely and confidently return to pubs, restaurants and hotels is vital for thousands of jobs in our region.”

Managing director of Park Regis, John Angus, said: “It was great to hear that the Mayor was so positive about our Covid readiness which is recognition for our team after so many months of preparation.

“We’ve been lucky to retain our management team in the hotel and they’ve been integral in putting the measures in place so it’s been a great team effort.

“We recognise that there’s a different dynamic out there and that customers will want to see safety measures and we are ready for this.”

Mike Olley, general manager of the BID, said he was pleased with the way hospitality businesses in the district had pulled out all the stops to enable customers to return safely.

“We were delighted to see Andy Street visiting Park Regis and recognising all the hard work that’s gone into getting our hotels and other businesses back on track,” he said.

“The hospitality sector here in Birmingham is leading the way in swiftly and safely adapting services to accommodate visitors. Park Regis have done a great job introducing new safety measures to reassure their guests and I wish them, and all our hospitality businesses well in the coming weeks and months.”
