A leading entertainment venue on Westside has the perfect antidote to the darker nights and colder winter weather over the coming months.
B:Music, the Birmingham music charity responsible for Symphony Hall in Centenary Square, has launched its new winter programme for 2023/24 which includes live music, dance and comedy on its the world-famous stage.
The new season showcases an array of performances at Symphony Hall, as well as nearby Town Hall, from the beginning of November right through until well into the new year.
And it will see in 2024 with not one, but two spectacular New Year’s Eve concerts:
- The London Concert Orchestra play the New Year’s Eve Gala from 2.30pm, and
- DJ Gary Davies brings BBC Radio 2’s Sounds of the 80s: The Live Tour to the city for an end of year party from 9pm with guest singer Carole Decker (T’Pau).
But the excitement begins much earlier than that, especially for lovers of live music.
Beverley Knight starts things off on 4 November before the legendary Robert Plant presents his Saving Grace co-operative, featuring Suzi Dian on vocals, on 5 November. Since forming in 2019, Saving Grace have received numerous acclaims for their live shows
Other musical highlights at Symphony Hall include Norah Jones (6 Nov), The Brand New Heavies: Live with the London Concert Orchestra (11 Nov), Sophie Ellis-Bextor (14 Dec), Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra (15-16 Dec), and a double bill of Wet, Wet, Wet and Go West (22 Jan).
Classical music treats range from Classical Spectacular on 12 November to the likes of the Symphony Orchestra of India (1 Dec) and Proms Night Spectacular (2 Dec),
Comedy offerings include stand-up stars such as Eddie Izzard (15-17 November) and Russell Howard (18-19 November), together with seasonal movies accompanied by a live orchestra, including The Muppet Christmas Carol (4 Dec) and How The Grinch Stole Christmas (9 Dec).
Other festive favourites will see Strictly Come Dancing’s most celebrated couple, Janette Manrara and Aljaž Škorjanec, take to the Symphony Hall stage with their show Dancing in a Winter Wonderland (10 December), followed by Candlelit Carols (17 Dec) Christmas at the Movies with the CBSO (21 Dec).
And for family fun, why not join Toscana Strings at the Jennifer Blackwell Performance Space within Symphony Hall on 17 December to see The Snowman and The Nutcracker brought to life through music, dance, and a little help from the audience.
