Tricorn House recently hosted an inspiring event in partnership with My Friend Jen Charity, giving tenants a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of sickle cell disease and the vital role blood donations play in saving lives.
The initiative builds on the momentum of National Blood Week in June, when the NHS Blood and Donation Centre visited Tricorn House for a “What’s your blood type?” event. That session proved a hit with tenants, raising awareness about the importance of blood donation and even inspiring several sign-ups.
During the follow-up event with My Friend Jen Charity, tenants engaged in insightful discussions about sickle cell disease—learning how it affects individuals daily and why blood donations, especially from donors of diverse ethnic backgrounds, are crucial for those living with the condition. Attendees had the chance to ask questions, gain personal insights, and leave with a greater understanding of the disease’s seriousness.
Bethany Smith from Tricorn House said:
“At Tricorn House, we are passionate about supporting causes that truly make a difference such as My Friend Jen Charity.
This inspiring charity shines a spotlight on the importance of blood donation, particularly from donors of diverse ethnic backgrounds and raises vital awareness about the impact of sickle cell disorder.
This isn’t just about one event it’s about championing a culture of awareness, empathy, and action. Partnering with such impactful charities allows us to stand alongside our tenants and make a meaningful contribution to wider communities who need it most.”
Events like these highlight the power of education, engagement, and community spirit, showing that even small actions—like donating blood—can have a profound impact.
