As Birmingham Rep gears up to reveal its first season under the leadership of new Artistic Director Joe Murphy, the theatre has announced a series of open forums designed to bring local voices into the conversation about its future.
The “Town Hall Talks with Artistic Director Joe Murphy” will invite freelance artists, theatre companies, and community members to meet Murphy, hear about his vision for The Rep, and share their own ideas for how the city’s landmark theatre can continue to serve Birmingham’s diverse cultural landscape.
When asked about the reason behind The Rep’s decision to host these events, Artistic Director Joe Murphy explained:
“I am really excited to meet the communities of Birmingham and hear their thoughts and ideas about what they want The Rep to be.
This building is here to be useful and offer opportunities to the people of Birmingham, and I want The Rep to celebrate the diverse voices of this city.”

The events are free to attend, fully BSL interpreted, and each one will focus on a different group:
- Wednesday 10 September – Freelance creatives from the region
- Wednesday 17 September – Creative companies
- Wednesday 24 September – Communities of Birmingham and the wider West Midlands
- Wednesday 1 October – Online forum for those unable to attend in person
Tickets must be booked in advance via birmingham-rep.co.uk or by calling the Box Office on 0121 236 4455 (open Monday to Saturday, 12pm–6pm, closing at 4pm if no evening show is scheduled).
