Jasper Carrott, the longstanding chair of Westside BID’s Walk of Stars committee, is still clearly doing very well in his ‘day job’ as a comedian.
Jasper, who has helped to oversee the installation of nearly 50 celebratory ‘stars’ along Broad Street, is also continuing to pull in the audiences to see his live stand-up show.
So much so, that an extra date has been added at the Royal Spa Centre in Leamington Spa as Jasper takes to the road in April.
The venue has announced the additional performance for Sunday 7 April after his original comedy on Friday 5 April “sold out in a flash”, leaving many fans “disappointed”.
The Royal Spa Centre said the comedy legend had happily agreed to add a second show.
Jasper, who began life as a folk singer, and later enjoyed chart success with comedy hit ‘Funky Moped/Magic Roundabout’, will now be performing in Leamington on 5 and 7 April, and the Concordia Theatre in Hinckley from 24 to 26 April.
All net proceeds from the five dates will be donated to charity.
Jasper will be joined on his mini tour by special guests Strictly ABBA, who will perform the Swedish supergroup’s biggest hits such as ‘Waterloo’ and ‘Dancing Queen’.
As well as Jasper’s Walk of Stars duties, he also officially launched the 39th Birmingham Jazz & Blues Festival at The Rep theatre in Centenary Square in July last year.
Jasper was the second ‘star’ to appear on Broad Street after rock legend Ozzy Osbourne.
Mike Olley, general manager of Westside BID, said: “How tremendous to see the ongoing popularity of Jasper’s stand-up comedy shows.
“The wonderful thing is that he carries on doing them these days not for money but because he loves to, and he enjoys seeing the net proceeds going to charity.
“We’re also very lucky here on Westside to have Jasper as such a close friend, and we really value his Walk of Stars role.”
