The world premiere of Planet Omar, adapted by Asif Khan from Zanib Mian’s popular children’s books, will run at Birmingham Rep from the 18th –21st June 2026.
The family production follows eight-year-old Omar, a British Pakistani Muslim boy with a vivid imagination who struggles to settle into a new home and school. Facing a difficult neighbour and a school bully, he finds support from his family, his friend Charlie, and his imagination – including a friendly dragon – which helps him navigate everyday challenges.
Director Sameena Hussain said:
“Sharing Planet Omar with audiences on stage for the very first time feels like a magical adventure – and I’m so proud to have this wonderful group of people by my side.
“Building Omar’s world with this incredible cast and creative team is going to be an absolute joy. I can’t wait for us to explore this funny, theatrical, deeply human story together; discovering the power of friendship, family and imagination as we create our own beautiful connections in the rehearsal room.”
