Residents, workers, and businesses in the Westside district are being invited to take part in a community litter pick aimed at improving cleanliness and strengthening local environmental pride.
Organised by the Westside Business Improvement District, the event will bring volunteers together for a structured clean-up session in and around the Broad Street area, one of the city’s busiest entertainment and commercial corridors.

The initiative forms part of Westside BID’s wider “Clean and Green” initiative, which focuses on maintaining public spaces, reducing street litter, and enhancing the district’s appeal for both visitors and local communities. Similar community clean-ups have previously been described by organisers as contributing to visible improvements across high-footfall areas, including nearby canal routes and streets.
Participants will be provided with equipment such as litter pickers, gloves, and waste bags. The event is designed to be accessible and informal, encouraging participation from a wide range of ages and backgrounds, with an emphasis on community involvement rather than formal volunteering experience.
Business Liaison Manager Elaine Weir said:
“The litter pick is intended not only to remove waste from public areas but also to promote shared responsibility for the local environment. Light refreshments will be provided at the end of the session, providing an opportunity for volunteers to reflect and network.”
