AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run unveils 2026 finisher medal.

With just two months to go until the AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run hits Birmingham’s streets on Sunday 3 May, organisers have revealed this year’s finisher medal – a bold tribute to the city’s architecture, culture, and global music scene.

Inspired by Birmingham’s musical legacy, the medal features a striking purple hue nodding to heavy metal pioneers Black Sabbath and the city’s iconic Cadbury heritage. Its circular, vinyl-style design marks each kilometre or mile of the 10k and half marathon routes, while subtle details celebrate Birmingham’s canals, the Library of Birmingham, and the Baskerville-inspired typography. On the reverse, a 3D bull icon references the famous Bullring, surrounded by words highlighting the city’s industrial past and creative future.

Paul Foster, CEO of The Great Run Company, said:

“Two months out from race day is when the excitement really builds – and revealing the medal is always a huge moment in the countdown.

“This year’s design is a tribute to Birmingham’s global influence on music and culture. From the heavy riffs that changed rock forever to the city’s unmistakable purple identity, we wanted to create a medal that runners will be proud to wear long after they’ve crossed the line.”

The event kicks off on Saturday 2nd May with the Junior and Mini runs at Alexander Stadium, where stars from the UK show Gladiators will serve as official starters. Sunday 3rd May sees 10k and half marathon runners pass landmarks from Centenary Square to the Jewellery Quarter, Digbeth, Southside, and Cannon Hill Park.

Since 2017, participants have raised over £10 million for charity. With places filling fast, organisers urge runners to secure their spot for one of the Midlands’ biggest sporting weekends.
