Westside BID recently enjoyed an entertaining evening at The Crescent Theatre, taking in Nigel Slater’s Toast – a warm, funny and poignant journey through the celebrated food writer’s childhood.
Based on Slater’s award-winning memoir and adapted for the stage, Toast transports audiences back to suburban Wolverhampton in the 1960s.
The evening was made particularly memorable by Business Liaison Manager Elaine Weir meeting Nigel Slater himself, adding a personal connection to a production which brings his childhood memories vividly to life on stage.

The Crescent Theatre, on Sheepcote Street, continues to play an important role in Birmingham’s thriving theatre scene, welcoming audiences to a diverse programme of productions and performances.
Toast offered an engaging evening of theatre — and a chance to meet one of Britain’s best-known food writers at the venue where his story was being brought to life.
The production runs until Saturday 19th September 2026.
