City Illuminated: Installations Take Centre Stage at Birmingham Light Festival

The 2026 edition of the Birmingham Light Festival concluded this weekend, with large-scale light installations transforming central Birmingham into an open-air gallery.

From glowing sculptural works to interactive pieces inviting public participation, the festival’s installations were the clear focal point. Across the city there were immersive light displays that encouraged visitors to linger and engage, while Brindleyplace featured striking illuminated structures showing the beating heart of local people.

Designed as a free, walkable trail, the artworks drew steady evening crowds and turned familiar streets into dramatic backdrops of colour and motion — a reminder that even in the darkest days of winter, Birmingham’s creative spirit burns brightly and refuses to be dimmed.
