Westside’s Dilbar Restaurant enjoys the sweet aroma of awards success

A leading restaurant on Westside has been cooking up a storm after winning a prestigious award at a glittering gala event in London.

Dilbar Restaurant & Cocktail Bar in Broad Street was judged the Best Restaurant in the Midlands at the 6th annual Asian Food and Restaurant Awards for 2021.

The awards, held at The Montcalm Hotel in Marble Arch, recognise the achievements and positive contribution being made by South Asians across the UK and within the international food industry.

Dilbar, which was previously called East is East, only opened in November 2019, shortly before the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

The family-owned independent restaurant, which employs 15 staff, offers an extensive menu of Indian cuisine.

It can accommodate 150 diners downstairs with room for a further 125 guests upstairs.

The restaurant recently renovated its upstairs area to create a private dining space, including a cocktail bar and DJ booth.

Dilbar owner Pam Bassi, who runs the restaurant with business partner Salman Tariq, said: “It has been a very difficult time due to the impact of Covid-19 and ongoing construction work in the city centre, but we have been able to rise above the challenges.

“We are also very new to the restaurant industry which is why we are so pleased to have won this prestigious award. This annual gathering celebrates the best of the Asian food industry so it was an honour to be recognised.”

She added: “We now enter 2022 with a positive momentum. Alongside our traditional Asian cuisine, people will also find unmissable monthly offers, exciting late-night events and the restaurant officially listed on Deliveroo in January.

“Due to the Commonwealth Games, 2022 is set to be an exciting year in Birmingham. We want to network with other businesses to make the city shine.”
