Swinging into Christmas with Jazz Fridays and The Notebenders

Live jazz returns to B: Music’s Symphony Hall this Friday as Free Jazz Fridays presents a performance by The Notebenders, a Birmingham-based community big band known for its energetic and inclusive sound.

Taking place at 5pm in the Jennifer Blackwell Performance Space, the event is free to attend and requires no booking, continuing the series’ aim of making live jazz accessible to all.

The Notebenders draw on a broad range of influences, blending traditional jazz with calypso and other rhythmic styles. Based in Ladywood, the ensemble reflects Birmingham’s diverse musical heritage and has built a reputation for lively, audience-friendly performances rooted in community participation.

Free Jazz Fridays is a regular programme spotlighting local jazz and improvised music talent in an informal early-evening setting. The series offers audiences the chance to experience live music at Symphony Hall while discovering artists from across the city’s jazz scene.

A representative from the band said:

“We’re really looking forward to performing as part of Jazz Fridays this week. The Notebenders are all about bringing people together through music, and playing in a space like Symphony Hall, feels very special to us. Our sound reflects the diversity and energy of the community we come from, and we hope audiences feel that sense of joy and connection when they join us on Friday.”
