People across Westside are being given the opportunity to obtain their poppies early, thanks to the BID.
Elaine Weir, the BID’s business liaison manager, will be distributing a variety of poppies to businesses throughout the Broad Street and Brindleyplace areas on Monday 7 October.
The ‘tour’ of the Westside district forms part of the annual fundraising Poppy Appeal in aid of the Royal British Legion. Elaine, who last year became become an authorised ‘collector of poppies’ for the Royal British Legion, said: “I will be distributing poppies on 7 October with the help of cadets from the Military Preparation Training College.”
The college, based on Broad Street, is aimed at young people starting out on their military career.
Added Elaine: “I will be offering a combination of silk and paper poppies, as well as badges, for members to buy.
“I have been involved in the Poppy Appeal for 11 years, with the last two years as an official organiser.
“We are pleased to play our part every year, ending up with our Remembrance Day event in Brindleyplace in November.
“Businesses across Westside are always keen to support the Royal British Legion and there is always a good response to the Poppy Appeal from BID members. We try to raise as much money as we can.”
Please email Elaine.weir@westsidebid.co.uk for more information, and to request poppies and a collection bucket.
