Bar manager on Westside preparing for 20k charity challenge

A Brindleyplace bar manager is taking on a daunting charity walk in aid of workers in the hospitality industry who need a helping hand.

Prabjot Ragbotra, the booking and events manager at All Bar One in Water’s Edge, has entered the Walk for Wellbeing 20k Challenge, which is being held in Birmingham city centre on Sunday 13 October.

The event, which sets off from the Albert’s Schloss restaurant in Chamberlain Square at 10am, is in aid of Hospitality Action, a charity providing vital support to people in the hospitality sector who need it.

Prabjot, who has set herself a minimum fundraising target of £100, is due to take on the 20k challenge herself, but is hoping to encourage colleagues from All Bar One to join her.

She said: “I have been part of the hospitality industry for nearly 30 years and this is something very close to my heart. Walk for Wellbeing is so much more than a fundraising walk. I am walking to promote the importance of better mental health and wellbeing for everyone in hospitality, whilst raising funds to power the vital work of Hospitality Action.”

The charity provides support through in-person and phone counselling sessions, as well as providing emergency grants.

Prabjot added: “We did a 12k walk as a group a couple of weeks ago and my knees were starting to hurt a bit towards the end. But I am on holiday in Greece the week before Walk for Wellbeing so I won’t have time to do any training, unless I do it on the beach.”

To take part in Walk for Wellbeing, just register to walk free of charge and access a fundraising page.

Participants can either join the hosted walk in Chamberlain Square on 13October, or walk any distance, in any location, any time from 10 October (World Mental Health Day) to 27 October.

The Birmingham walk takes in Edgbaston Reservoir, parts of Digbeth, and a section of the city’s canal network.
